Beginning in January 2006, the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), in cooperation with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), distributed 300,000 copies of the books to schools, libraries and organizations serving Native American children across the country in an effort to promote diabetes awareness and prevention.
